Mill Con ramps up revenue outlookSET-listed Mill Con Steel Industries Plc targets a revenue increase from 15 billion bath last year to 26 billion in 2013 thanks to its acquisition of wire rod producer Thai Special Steel Industry (TSSI). Sittichai Leeswadtrakul, Mill Con’s president and chief executive, said TSSI expects to resume production in this year’s fourth quarter and utilize half of its annual capacity next year. This will generate additional revenue of 9 billion baht to Mill Con by Prachai Leophairattana of thai Petrochemical Industry, TSSI’s plant in Rayong suspended production since 2007 due to liquidity problems.The facility has the capacity to roll out 500,000 tonnes of special-grade wire rods yearly. Mill Con is completing legal due diligence of TSSI and will spend a couple more months to revamp its plant before resuming production. Meanwhile, Mill Con is plans to utilize 65-70% of its own capacity this year. Located in Rayng province, the plant has 550,000 tonnes of steel bar capacity and 300,000 tonnes of structural steel per annum. It project revenue groeth of 10-15% this year to 17 billion baht. The company recently began production of the 5-billion-baht Electric Arc Furnace for backward integration.The so-called Green Mill project, the facility will supply 250,000 tonnes of billets to Mill Con with the balance exported to Asian markets such as Taiwan and South Korea.Even after Green Mill starts production, Mill Con will still need to secure 150,000 tonnes of billets per annum from either domestic suppliers or imports, he added. Mill Con signed a contract with Chow Steel Industries Plc yesterday for the latter to supply a minimum of 100,000 tonnes per year of billets for 2 billion baht. Listed on the Market for Alternative Investment (MAI), Chow has a maximum capacity of 730,000 tonnes of billet a year. Chow’s chief executive Anavi Jiratomsiri said the company projects to increase production by 20% this year to 340,000 to 360,000 tonnes, with Mill Con among the majo buvers.Thailand Consumes upto 10 million tonnes of billets a year, of which 6 million are produced locally. Mr.Sittichai said Mill Con and Chow are considering further developing their partnership in the future toinclude joint procurement of imported steel scraps. Mill Con (MILL) shares closed yesterday on the SET at 2.62 baht, up two satang, in trade worth 7 million baht. Chow (CHOW) closed on the MAI at 2.86 baht, down two satang, in trade worth 59 million.
